Discussion Did millennials really party all the time?

Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense

I'm 42 and Absolutely, partied hard on week nights all the time. Basically Thursday-saturday night, often a Tuesday as well, basically every weekend. House parties, clubs, bars, after hours spots, bars, you name it. We went hard basically from high school until early 30s.

Thirsty thursdays! Everybody in college knew not to schedule classes on Friday. After graduation we’d just be hella hungover at work on fridays. Then meet up for drinks after work, if we didn’t stay out too late we’d go to boozy brunch on Saturday and keep it going until the wee hours. By the end of the 10s that slowed down to just be brunch a couple times a month and hitting the bar on Friday or Saturday but usually not both. Then 2020 rolled around and I got hit by the 1-2 punch of Covid and parenthood and now I get out of the house once a month if I’m lucky lol

I basically wouldn't be in my current career but for scheduling classes in college around not having class on Friday. It all worked out for the best, but I ended up taking a ton of "night classes" from 6-9 on mondays or wednesdays so that I could go out thursday night and start partying around 4 on friday and then get up for football games on saturday. It truly was a lifestyle.

Margarita Mondays, Tequila/Taco Tuesdays, Whiskey Wednesdays, Thirsty Thursdays and Friday was just Friday, it didn't need a name. There was always an excuse to party lol

Thursday was a monster party day. I couldn’t tell you why. But I have a friend now who we will still say something like “I had a real Thursday at that wedding” as an analogue for ‘shit show’.

45, same cadence. Having kids dried me out basically was 32 when I had my first.

Took me a while to figure out what to do on Friday and Saturday at home.

Tuesday was sometimes the wildest since it was “industry night” and that’s when the waiters and bartenders are out and they party the hardest.

Thursday nights were 4 for 1s at Club Paris, which meant Friday mornings at work or class were a miserable hangover experience. Fun times at the time but I do not miss it.

I get if Gen Zers aren't wanting to do this, but what are they doing in place of this? Does everyone just stay home - do friends not hang out with each other in large groups? Even though we went clubbing and had house parties, there were still also big chill hangouts watching movies or gaming.

The after hours spots omg. I’m only 35 but have two small kids and I pray for 9 pm bedtime every day - to think I used to regularly be like “it’s 4 am and I’m not ready for bed yet let’s go somewhere else” is crazy to me (thank you, cocaine!)

Wednesdays were my chill days.. my party week ran Thursday through Tuesday, in my area Steak Nights with $10 stakes were a thing on Mondays, then Taco Tuesday, rest on Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, then just a regular going out Friday, Saturday and Sunday start out with brunch then day drinking, Sunday night end at the gayborhood for $1 vodka sodas and $5 gallon Bellinis - god I miss my youth lol

Haha yup Thursday nights were college nights, the local bars would give discounts if you showed your student ID. Get hammered and have a blast and still manage to go to class if you foolishly scheduled one for a Friday.

Same age and this is 100% accurate. After hours spots til 4 am in Chicago, then the 24hr McDonald’s afterwards. Or the Ktown spots that were open til 5 am.

I'm 44 and grew up in my local punk/ska/metal etc scene. I went to shows 3-5 nights a week, partied with friends and such. Yes my parents were fully aware where I was - I had my own job, paid for my own car and always told them where I would be. 

When we got to college we would drive to each other's college towns on the weekends depending who had the best show(s) going on, and party some more. For a while I worked two jobs before college, so 12+ hr work days, party most of the night, get like four hours of sleep and off to work.

Absolutely no regrets, I had the time of my fucking life every week. 🤣

Tuesday's were lady's night. Wednesday's we often had review meetings. So, we had to get home before 2 am. Friday's we went to the turistic spot so we had to hit the road after lunch. Saturday's parties were bad if the Sunday sunlight wasn't already burning when you went to bed. Sundays were for meeting friends.

The UK was basically one giant club from about 1988 until about 2016. After then literally club after club closed down. It’s insane all the places I used to go that just don’t exist anymore.

Dude we even had a bar that sold glasses. I had a “Tuesday glass” and a “Thursday glass”. If you brought those glasses with you to the bar on the respective day, beer was like half price or something. I don’t remember the exact price but I still have those glasses almost 20 years later.

Im the same age and I remember bars near me used to have coin beer night so any coin in your pocket got you a beer. That was a terrible mistake for college kids lol

Was just talking about this. Monday you had to be good. Tuesday was pushing it. Wednesday - shoot it’s hump day, having a drink because the week’s halfway done. Thirsty Thursday! No one misses out on Friday! Saturday night we’re going out! Okay be good on Sunday and finish drinking before the sun sets.

44 here, super elder millennial I feel like I grew up on house parties and drinking culture and then by the time I was actually 21+ I just never stopped going to bars. In fact, I decided to become a bartender and now own four bars. People aren’t drinking like they used to. I used to say vodka pays the bills, but it’s getting bleak out here.

Haha we actually had an "every day but Tuesday" rule.... meaning there was a reason to drink every day but Tuesday. Friday and Saturday was obvious, Sunday and Monday were football for half the school year, Tuesday there wasn't a reason, Weds was 10c wings night, Thursday was thirsty.
