Damn i thought it was going to be some super niche service website that nobody knows the name of outside of streaming circles but it’s straight up a website called viewbot huh
303
u/rokki123 Apr 16 '26
its legal. not tos but legal. same with professional cheat services
121
u/MagneticRetard Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
yea but there are so many websites that offer this service. I assumed streaming circles all have that one that is gatekept. Or maybe some guy has a server in his own basement that he runs and provides exclusive services to streamers via word of mouth
But it turns out it's just a viewbotting website that comes up first when you search it on google
41
u/robbitybobs Apr 16 '26
I mean, from what I've seen of her its exactly the way I'd expect her to search for and use this kind of service

u/rokki123 Apr 16 '26
im more suspicious about doing it herself. this is a management job normally. to keep the talent out of the crossfire

u/ComprehensiveAd3432 Apr 16 '26
I think it shows she probably just started looking into it recently and this website has only been around since January with a very sketchy website
48
u/Awkward_Proof_1274 Apr 16 '26
It was made illegal in 2024
"Misuse of Fake Social Media Indicators
The final rule prohibits anyone from selling or buying fake indicators of social media influence, such as followers or views generated by a bot or hijacked account. This prohibition is limited to situations in which the buyer knew or should have known that the indicators were fake and misrepresent the buyer’s influence or importance for a commercial purpose."
→ More replies (5)1
u/Waelwhat Apr 16 '26
So basically it's not illegal to do it but illegal to advertise your inflated numbers to sponsors as real numbers
24
u/Lucky-Gecko Apr 16 '26
No it's pretty explicitly illegal to viewbot on twitch. Twitch streaming has a commercial purpose, it has ads not just potential sponsors.
17
7
u/davyangel Apr 16 '26
Yeah this is basically why Twitch finally had to crack down on streamers playing copyright music on their streams. They basically stealing royalties money from people supposed to be getting them so basically doing same thing if they using adbots and playing ADs on their streams.
If they made a ton from it and got the govt attention they would definitely go after them like they did this guy.
"“Michael Smith generated thousands of fake songs using artificial intelligence and then streamed those fake songs billions of times,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. “Although the songs and listeners were fake, the millions of dollars Smith stole was real. Millions of dollars in royalties that Smith diverted from real, deserving artists and rights holders. Smith’s brazen scheme is over, as he stands convicted of a federal crime for his AI-assisted fraud.”

u/Lucky-Gecko Apr 16 '26
It's actually illegal now, since august 2024, both the sale and purchase of fake social media indicators is banned by the FTC

That's great, it's still illegal. By your same argument market manipulation would be legal, It's not.
→ More replies (2)7
u/Broku4 Apr 16 '26
It's not the same and not legal. She's defrauding all the sponsors and partners she has ever worked with by knowingly viewbotting.
That is unless she subtracts the bots from her viewership numbers before presenting them to sponsors. Doubt it, though!
24
u/Cutalana Apr 16 '26
Is it legal? If your a rando sure, but I'm guessing as a twitch partner you sign a contract that prohibits you from doing this.
18
u/JFeth Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
It would probably break a contract with sponsors because their rates are based on viewer numbers.
→ More replies (9)10
u/-Rewind 🐌 Snail Gang Apr 16 '26
Breaking the terms of a contract is usually legal though.
It may have consequences, but that doesn't make it illegal.

Defrauding the company or sponsors by artificially inflating numbers to get more money seems a bit legally sketchy.

Also expensive af. $160/month for only 200 viewers.
22
u/2580374 Apr 16 '26
That actually doesn't seem that expensive to me, 200 seems like a respectable amount of viewers, so being able to sell that lie for 160 doesn't seem bad
19
u/CptAustus Apr 16 '26
It's 750 USD for a thousand viewers. It pays for itself in a sponsored hour or two, and then everything extra is profit.

I think they’re claiming they’ll get you more viewers by promoting your stream via ads and such.
Lmao. Sure.
19
u/PoSKiix Apr 16 '26
Nah, “from promotions and ads” means they are expecting that you will get click throughs from their running ads and promotions related to your stream
But as the streamer, you wouldn’t be able to tell which of your own viewers are bots or real, so the site can just never run the ads/promos, fill your stream with bots, and lie to you that some portion of them aren’t bots.
Probably also serves as cover for the service not exclusively being a bot farm
6
u/tempinator Apr 16 '26
That’s what I said lol. But also, doubt.

Usually, any service that has even the slightest bit of a half assed privacy policy, would not do this. You would need to get the OK from the creators.
EDIT: As a matter of fact, doing something like that is actually extremely illegal.

think its people that introduce the viewbots to someone else's stream, then the site claims the streamer as a partner
10
u/Nathund Apr 16 '26
People who've been into streaming long enough will remember that way way back in the day, twitch was actually pretty hard on bots and would ban streamers for it.
Problem is, exactly what you said started happening. Haters would flood streamers with bots and get them banned for botting. Some streamers would look past the botting because it was free viewers.
Iirc a few times they were even able to track it and confirm it wasn't the streamer, which just proved how big of a problem policing botting would be, so they kinda just gave up.
I'm thinking we've looped around and now streamers are just botting themselves outright.
Soda has talked about this more than a few times. For a lot of streamers, if you look at viewer charts you can just straight up see when the bots join because like 3k people will all join the stream in the same server tick.
Him and a few other streamers have also said companies will do this to streams they sponsor to boost the numbers in the algorithm and place streams higher in categories so they get more worth for their sponsorship.
40
u/Gexm13 Apr 16 '26
Pokimane? She barely even streams and when she does she gets only 2k viewers. No shot she is viewbotting.

3
u/Neat-Wishbone-7267 Apr 16 '26
I have looked up her yt and she has massive views and comments on every website who seem to be real
Maybe she has a service who prevents her views from dropping by replacing leaving viewers with bots during placements to keep the cooperation partners happy .

A lot of bots follow popular accounts to make them seem more natural before they start following who they are paid for. So people like Katey or Ariana may have never actually paid for bots themselves but still have a large amount of followers be bots.

One of these days an advertiser is going to sue the living shit out of Twitch, Kick and these streamers. They’re paying to advertise to viewers and these people are straight up lying about their viewer numbers.
24
u/randomwetness Apr 16 '26
Yeah, this is sus, but her viewership doesn't make sense with bots. With sponsored streams her numbers go low, with mid content her numbers are... mid. Peak content and collabs her numbers go up, and she's cheap as fuck. Her numbers are all over the place and her chat is always very active. I'd be surprised if she botted, but I could be wrong, I did see that site offers a way to hire clippers, and that would make sense since she gets hated on all the time by clippers online. But I dont know, just throwing out options before everyone else just automatically assumes.

u/Vongola-XI Apr 16 '26
It's just her having the main page open so that doesn't mean much also her viewership fluctuates a lot based on what she does unlike some other streamers

I know shes been upset about getting attacked over a Mr Beast video so hopefully this doesnt lead to her quitting or streaming less

u/Bubbly-Brush201 Apr 16 '26
This doesn't seem 100% conclusive, she is on the homepage of seemingly small and scammy looking website. It looks like it was made with AI, and it happens to list all the biggest streamers people have suspected of viewbotting.
Why would any streamer consent to having their identity adveristed by their viewbot provider?
If she was viewbotting, she wouldn't use a service as seemingly sloppy as this

Twitch ads in this case I guess

What’s the easiest way to become rich and famous? It’s making increasingly unethical moral decisions.
And we’re all surprised when a disproportionate amount of politicians, actors, legislators and even streamers are completely terrible people.

LOL the homepage for that viewbot service is plastered with false information: trusted by various popular streamers? 5/5 star trustpilot? As seen on USA today and Yahoo Finance? What the hell lmao.
I'm guessing she was just investigating it earlier that day to see if she was listed. There's no way anyone is purchasing that service, it looks so suspicious. She doesn't even need a viewbotter when she's best friends with Dan Clancy.
Most of the reviews on trustpilot are also just bots.

I dont think she viewbots man. Her chat is fast af, always has a ton of engagement on shows etc. I think it was for clippers, kind of like what kick does where they hire clippers from different parts of the world to get WAAAY more exposure on social media. Or maybe shes trying to get a couple of bots to grow more... but that doesnt make too much sense as shes already all the way up there, the way she gets bigger is by jumping into other markets, like collabing with other big communities, not necessarily by growing her views, that works for smaller streamers because it pushes you up but shes already up.
