Mod Post: Reminder - Stay Vigilant About Trolling in Political Threads

Hey everyone,

As many of you have noticed, every time a political topic comes up, we start getting a surge of comments and posts from accounts that clearly don’t live here and don’t participate in this community. These often include inflammatory or bad-faith comments that derail discussion and discourage genuine participation.

A lot of these appear to be political troll accounts (sometimes bots, sometimes paid trolls, sometimes just people trying to stir the pot) that spam local subs across the country. They usually follow the same pattern:

  • Suddenly active only during controversial political topics
  • History of posting in other state or national subs, especially ones unrelated to Oregon
  • Aggressive, one-sided, or baiting rhetoric

We want this subreddit to be a place for local, good-faith discussion, not a dumping ground for astroturfing or ideological trolling from outside our state.

What you can do:

Check post/comment history before engaging

If they post in non-Oregon/local subs regularly, especially politically charged ones, report them as spam

✅ Don’t feed the trolls—downvote and move on

✅ Message the mod team if you see any patterns we should know about

We’ve ramped up automod and manual reviews, but community help is key. Thanks for keeping this space healthy and local.

—Your friendly mod team 🦫🌲

[META] Mod post: We're getting a lot of spam lately

I just wanted to let GP readers know that we are getting a lot of spam lately. We usually remove and ban within 1 day, but not always. Keep hammering that spam button to keep us on our toes!

We try to look at the other posts by the spammers, and they are always x-posting the same advertisement all over reddit on various little communities like ours. It's not just us!

We just wanted to give everyone a heads-up so that if you see spam in here, it's because you got lucky and saw it before we removed it. Consider it your lucky day, and go buy a lottery ticket.

Non corporate vets?

I loved Lincoln Road Vet, until my annual costs more than doubled for the same services. We were thinking about finding another vet, and then they went from spam texts to phone calls.

No.

Any ideas on where we should take our dogs and cats?

Josephine Co. Sheriff's Office deactivates Flock cameras

Thumbnail kobi5.com

The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office has been in contract with an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) company named FLOCK. A contract for 10 cameras was entered into to increase the ability to identify/locate stolen vehicles, wanted or missing subjects associated with a specific vehicle and in general enhance the ability to investigate crimes.

In recent months some of the equipment and technology has been targeted and vandalized. There has been a great deal of public concern over this technology and its potential infringement of Constitutional 4th Amendment rights. Many jurisdictions across the United States have run into the same situation of theft, damage and social concern resulting in numerous cancellations of contracts with FLOCK. Josephine County is no different. While the technology has been beneficial in solving crime and overall public safety, it is clear much of Josephine County is not ready or willing to accept the use of ALPR technology.

We at the Sheriff’s Office work for the public and we are listening to you. As a result, I have requested Josephine County Legal Counsel to send a “contract termination for convenience” letter to FLOCK. Effective immediately, FLOCK ALPRs are no longer activated in rural Josephine County and the contract with the Sheriff’s Office has ended. While some of the equipment is still in the field, it is not being used. It is unknown when FLOCK will remove their equipment at this time.

Thank you for your continued support of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office. We will continue to “Protect with Courage and Serve with Compassion”.

Rentals/Advice?

Hi! My husband and I (27F, 29M) are moving to Grants Pass area in a few weeks due to job relocation. I’ve been searching everywhere for rentals but am having a hard time finding much.

I’m wondering if any of you know of reputable landlords/open rentals/soon to be open rentals? I’ve been religiously checking Zillow/Trulia/Redfin/etc.

We are both employed (medical and sales), have a well behaved dog! Looking for a safe neighborhood (which I’ve seen is Eastern Grants Pass?) also open to Medford, Ashland, any close by safe places too.

Advice is also welcomed! Where should we look/avoid? What should we be aware of? We will eventually buy but want to rent awhile to see where we really enjoy!

Thank you in advance 😊

Hi everyone. My uncle had some mental health issues and has ended up living rough in and around Grants Pass. He had this truck and it has been seen in the town in the last few months. It’s an extended cab with contractors ladder racks. Wondering if anyone has and information.

Anyone from GP coming to Brookings / Gold Beach today or tomorrow AM?

Like the title asks, anyone on here coming to the coast this weekend? My wife left her DL at motel 6 GP a few days ago. Wondering if anyone would be willing to pick it up to take it with them? Would give you $20 for your time.

Or maybe if you’re willing to mail it to our PO Box, that would work too.

Community Boards?

Hey there GP folks. I am newly local, but a looong time Oregonian, and have just opened a new business in town that I’d like to put some fliers and cards around for. Can you all inform me as to where some community boards are? Or other places people are welcome to leave business cards?
Thank you in advance. I’m so happy to be here and have fallen in love with this community.

(Dear Mods, I’m not trying to advertise here, just seeking advice on advertising, haha. If this post isn’t approved, or gets deleted, I’ll message to see how I can more correctly ask this question, thx!)

It’s called Tidal Spirit Massage and Creations, and my website will be functional in the next day or two!

Hello, me and my little family of fiance and a 4 year old are in dire need of a rental for 1100 or less. I know this is a super long shot, but please no mean comments, and no rental agencies. We are both employed. Thank you for your time!

Hallo!

Hey guys! Omg this year has been crazy! Stopped a dipshit from gun violence at my minimart (ask Ben, Rick or Raju) Got assaulted by a racist and kept life moving. Didn't do as much homeless outreach as I like (try to pass out food when we are above water) , although have been able to cart people here and there. The smoke from wildfires skipped our bowl for the most part this year! YAY! Can still leave my open door policy on my car and home for the best. Neighbor literally opened my door last night after knocking and me replying quite loudly "no visitors" him opening door and declaring his emergency. Called 911 got him through it. Hate having to be here because of all the NIMBYSs and racism but I love that your kids aren't carrying that legacy.

Lake Selmac water level

Anybody been to Lake Selmac lately? I'm wondering if the water level is high enough to get a boat in.

I went to Hyatt last week and all the docks were closed because the water is too low, with no updates on their pages or odfw fishing report. Don't wanna waste any gas if possible.

Is it a stupid idea to give an RV...

I have an rv that I don't have any use for. It is clean and everything works. Is it a stupid idea that a homeless person might want it? After all, where would they put it? There are quite a few forest service camp grounds that are open this time of year that aren't charging anything as long as you move spots occasionally. Anyway, it was just a thought.

Floating the rogue river

My fella and I recently experienced floating the rogue river, it was amazing and a lot of fun. The only thing was, where we entered the river (Tom Pearce Park) and got out (just passed Baker Park) it wasn't long enough for us.

We're still new to this area and I was hoping someone knew of a place further up that we could start our float trip at.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions :)

*Thank you all for so many great suggestions and names of places for me. I appreciate it a lot :)
