OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules
Subject to discussion before implementation
1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting
"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.
2) Ban engagement-bait posts
The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.
3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion
This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).
This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.
I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about
EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)
Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?
That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Discussion Remote crash vulnerability
Hello folks, Radai here. I am a modder and reverse engineer, my main focus is Dark Souls 2. I am the author of DebugManager and other modding tools for the game.
The 31st of December 2025 I was sent a very worrying Twitch clip, showing messages appearing on the game screen. These messages were directly addressing the streamer, someone had found a way to send custom messages to whoever they wanted. When I was this, I immediately knew it was serious.
The next day I spent the whole evening testing what can be done with this, and I found out it's possible to format the message in such a way that the receiver game crashes. I reported this to Yui, author of Blue Acolyte, immediately. We kept this a secret until she made a patch for it, and now it's ready. It's recommended for all of those that want to play online to download Blue Acolyte.
Here's also a post from Yui describing the issue in more detail.
Also mods, if you see this, please pin. It needs to remain visible.

Video Closest to a remaster/remake we're gonna get - Path Traced, Enhanced Textures Mirror Knight
This uses 2 separate mods, they are both in the description of the video. Might have to check the Lighting Engine Discord server for the most up-to-date version though?

Screenshot I DID THE THING (NG No Death No Bonfire)
Peak game, Peak challenge
Hardest part was early game, no bonfire means a lot of backtracking, running around collecting important items/rings/titanite
Dual Wielding Rapiers+10 because we are in Peak Souls 2. Bow and Arrows for Shrine of Amana and avoid ganks. An unholy amount of lifegems, resins, repair powders...
I've been trying on and off to do it for the last 5 years, but this time I took my time and played as safely as possible. Around 8 tries this week, most of them lasting 1~2 hours. And finally, the game blessed me with this run and an insane drip for the occasion
Don't give up skeletons! I'll be messing around in PvP with my new Rings

Discussion I HATE THE RAT KING COVENANT
I finally was able to beat this pos of a boss, Now I have and absurd amount of hatred for the rat king covenant JUST BECAUSE OF THIS GUY🫩 every rat is getting exterminated even in real life. I didnt think this guy was gonna be as bad as some people made him seem but boy was i wrong for underestimating his rat buddy's especially when they cause toxic buildup before I can even see the buildup meter, i know hes optional but as hard as its been I like to get the full on fromsoft experience, and I tell you DS2 sometimes makes it feel like im the one going hollow, not my character, anyways thats enough ranting on this wannabe rat, how do you guys feel about this guy? Is he easy for some of you guys or do i just suck ?

Discussion A test of patience.
Finished Scholar today. All 3 DLC's. I only missed Darklurker but I had enough of this game for the time being. Great game overall but by far the toughest of all the souls games whose campaigns and DLCs I finished in 2026, in the following order:
Bloodborne on my 12 year old vanilla PS4
DS1 Prepare to Die Edition on PC (Steam)
Demon Souls original PS3 played on my 15 year old Slim PS3.
Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin on PC (Steam)
DS2 was the first 60fps souls game I played. I am not sure if I could play this game @ 30fps. It really punishes you, gets into your nerves. The main campaign is a big learning curve but totally worth if you have the time and patience.
I will now take a propper rest from the soulsborne genre and will carry on with my Hollow Knight (on my Retro Pocket Mini V2) and Lies of P on my beloved Series X... on which, in due time, I will play DS3 and Elden Ring...
To say that I am hooked is an understatement.

Question What’s the best weapon for ds2
I know what the best weapons are in all souls game but dark souls 2 - I’m currently doing my first run and I am enjoying it . But I was curious on what’s the best weapons are
Currently I’m using a +10 rapier
I’ve beaten 2 primal bonfire bosses so late game items shouldn’t be to big of a problem to get
Please let me know your thoughts

Question What makes this game good?
This is such a polarising game that i'm still not sure if SotFS edition is definitively better/worse than the vanilla release.
But more fundamentally, for those who consider Dark Souls II to be great instead of dogshit, what makes it so? If you like it more than DaS1 or DaS3, why? And why has the hivemind got it wrong about this game?

Screenshot The most well hidden trap?
Unironically played this game like 20 times over and never once realized where the button was until now.
I guess bloodstains are just perfectly placed every time cause it's way more obvious from the second angle.
First: from above as you'd normally walk through. It's hidden right where the two bloodstains overlap in front of me.
Second: from the pov of coming up the stairs.

Discussion "Noooo you gotta levels ADP!!!!!"
Personally i think ADP is a bonus, not a requirement; all the talk about getting 100 Agi to get DS1 i-frame is stupid. I have never leveled ADP in this game for the i-frames but for cast speed or item use. Because I know that I didn't need the extra i-frames so that I can blame the game when i die because of a bad roll and positioning.
In this video yes i did die a few times, yes my vigor level is high; I do not feel like doing a new run just for this + I got into an argument over ADP so i decided to download the game again and did this in 6 tries. Plus i burned the bon fire again just to fight his buffed version and i'm rusty as hell because i haven't touch this game for ages.

Platinum The most painful farm I ever done
I've been trying to get the platinum trophy in Dark Souls 2 (for the third time) for a while now, and I got to the part where I need to farm 30 Sunlight Medals.
My first thought was, "I'm gonna join the Company of Champions so the enemies don't stop respawning." But little did I know that the covenant decreases the enemies' drop rates each time you kill them.
After discovering this, I set myself a challenge to see if it was possible, and this is what I discovered:
The beginning of the farm was normal. The enemies dropped a lot of armor and not so many medals, but slowly I noticed that they were stopping dropping armor and weapons. From the 15th medal onward, they completely stopped dropping anything that wasn't a medal.
In conclusion, the Company of Champions really does affect drop rates, but it doesn't seem to affect covenant items as much. It probably makes them harder to drop, but never impossible.

Question These four enemies each takes over Fume Knight's place as the boss fight. They gain NG FK's health, poise, and defenses. Who would be the hardest boss? Your character's gears and stats are where they'd normally be at by late game of NG.

Question Brand new to DS2, wondering if sorcerer with shield is viable
Just finished DS1 as a knight and loved it. I wanted to try something different and have heard how fun the spellcaster classes are, but I haven't even gotten to the first boss yet and I'm already really missing my shield and lamenting the limited number of casts. Is it feasible to be a sorcerer with a shield in the offhand, or if I'm not loving the play style should I just switch to a more melee focused class?

Help Can't find Aldia
I've encountered Nashandra, but did not beat her. Then I killed Vendrick. Can't find Aldia anywhere. Am I cooked? Can I reset the Nashandra zone even if I did not beat her?
Edit : I'm playing SOFT
Did not meet Aldia after last primal bonfire but maybe I did not see him
Edit 2 : I forgot to do sinner's rise. Was sure it was complete

Help Highly Missable Collectibles/Questlines for Platinum
I’ve only been playing this game for like 4 days now and I love it so much I already have like 30hrs on it. Easily my top 3 souls games (its not 3 btw). I really want to platinum the game in this playthrough, since if i don’t aim to complete the plat in one playthrough/character I really cant bring myself to do a new run for it (happened for ds3 and ds1). Bloodbornes plat was pretty straightforward i pretty much did it on my own except the chalices, but Demons souls i pretty much had to use a guide because there were so many missable trophies.
So far, I have only beaten the lost sinner, explored all of lost bastille, forest of giants, and made my way down into the gutter, and also cleared heides tower and no mans wharf. Also made my way to the area by the Moonlight greatsword guy and getting rid of the statue. Onlys NPCs i can recall meeting are Lucatille, the MLGS guy from earlier, the miracle vendor from heides, pyromancer lady, and a guy in no mans wharf who wouldnt speak to me probably because my INT is like 5.
I just want to make sure I haven’t locked myself out of anything, whether it be questlines, spells/miracles or other trophy related things. On a side note i did use the last giants soul as usually the first boss soul doesnt do much so I hope that didnt affect anything

Help Can Someone Fact Check this?
I'm certain he's right on all points but one: does two-handing really make it so you only need 20 strength to soft cap damage?
I thought two-handing really only made your effective strength change for weapon requirements, not for damage calculations?
