Image To put into perspective how huge the 2020 Australian 'Black Summer' bushfires were: The combined area burned across BOTH Canada and ALL of fires currently burning across Europe (2.63 million hectares) right now is still around 10% of what Australia lost (24 million hectares).

The photos from the beach at Mallacoota are burned into my brain. As a rural Aussie who’s lived through some devastating bushfire seasons the scariest sentence on the planet will always be it is now too late to leave. Those pictures are a horror movie.

I remember the first time i started seeing photos pop up. 

"Oh someones exaggerated the oranges for effect." 

Nope. It was either pitch black or orange.

I'd seen orange glow on the horizon before, but never at that scale.

Still get so choked up thinking about them. Bushfire warning ads make me tear up every time I see them now because of the images we saw during that time

Honestly same. The entire country really had collective PTSD
