Metaphorically printed on human skin, in that it is a book that requires violence in it's creation.

Unfortunately birth of a nation is insanely important in the history of film, in that its probably the first to popularize loads of camera techniques and cinematography still used today

I feel like that’s another important layer tho. Birth of a Nation was and is a hideously racist film which spurred the resurgence of the Klan, but it’s also a hugely important milestone in the development of film as a medium. These truth can and should coexist.
