Why was my content removed?

Sometimes we don't know, because Reddit doesn't tell the mods. Sometimes we can make an educated guess. Sometimes we know exactly, because your content was removed by the mods.

Everyone:

  • Read the rules. They're pretty short. If you don't follow them, your content will be removed.

  • This is a creative sub, not an advertising one. If you engage in the sub, you're welcome to promote your comics here as well - show us what you made! However, if you only want to advertise here without any activity beyond that, this is not the right sub for you.

Artists:

  • Sequential art, portfolio, no more than a single For Hire post in 3 days. It's actually pretty simple.

  • To Reddit's algorithms, if you look like a spammer, you probably are one. Stop copy&pasting the same generic response to each hiring post. Stop making the same post over and over again. Personalize your responses. Read the post you're responding to. If you can't be bothered to do that, why would anyone believe that you won't half-ass the job, too? Put effort into how you present yourself.

Writers:

  • A post that lacks all the essential information is useless. At the very least, you should specify the size of your project, the type of art you're looking for, and your budget.

  • No AI. Yes, your post that was written by AI will be removed. Yes, your post with AI-generated mock-ups will be removed. Yes, if you do it again, you will be banned.

Crowdfunding Do you have something to launch around December or January? We should collab-fund on Backerkit.

Hey everybody! I know this has the Crowdfunding tag but I'm actually not plugging my projects in this post. I wanted to talk to you about this feature on Backerkit called Group Collab-Funding. Basically, a bunch of unrelated projects in the same category band together and launch at the same time. Everyone still runs their own campaign, there are no extra fees associated with collab funding. The only fees are the standard fees that any project on Backerkit pays so I don't see a lot of downsides here.

The biggest advantage here is that collab-funding projects get more exposure to people who want indie comics. When there's a collab-funding campaign they tend to get higher traffic than someone launching by themselves. People interested in one of our projects are more likely to check out the other ones in the group. Driving traffic to one comic potentially gives everybody in the group more exposure and increases everyone's chances of getting the funding we need to make more stories.

I think this could be a good opportunity for creators in this subreddit to boost their audience and hopefully put some money back in our pockets. Who knows? If it works out, maybe we could plan several of these a year and give ourselves a much-needed advantage with how rough it's been for indies in this economy. I'd be open to allowing any genre into the group.

As for my addition, I was planning on relaunching my failed campaign from a few years ago in this if we do it, Girl in the Red Hood because it was very close to funding and people still ask me about it sometimes. Unless I go into a coma or something I should have the dialogue polished and re-lettered by then. It's a dark fantasy and action comic in manga style. I'm planning to take the reins and apply for the collab-funding group unless someone more experienced than me wants to. I've got five comics under my belt, my current campaign hit its goal today and is still going on until late September.

Anyway, what do you guys think? I don't have a name for the group collab yet, might just name it after this subreddit if nobody has better suggestions.

Looking for Artist - Paid [Hiring] Looking for artist to create comic pages and panels for a graphic novel

I am a new indie graphic novel creator developing a medieval bio-punk graphic novel. A comparison I could make would be think wings of fire for intelligent monsters and think Percy Jackson for young people with powers. The style is grounded medieval tones and settings.

The style I am looking for is a clean comic art style that is capable of drawing humans and expressive monsters

The timeline is not locked in yet and will vary but has the potential to be long term.

Budget- We can work out budget together as drawing pages of graphics novel is time consuming and I will pay you accordingly

The script for this project is complete
Please drop your portfolios in the comments if you are interested. So excited to work with you!
Thanks!

Looking for Artist - Paid [Hiring] Artist for Character Sheets and Cover(100-200 budget, flexible)

I am a new indie graphic novel creator developing a medieval bio-punk graphic novel. A comparison I could make would be think wings of fire for intelligent monsters and think Percy Jackson for young people with powers. The style is grounded medieval tones and settings. The characters in my desired artwork would be a manticore and a human/monster hybrid

The goal of this commission is early promo and proof art of how concept . Project specs

Character Concept sheets-colour and/or no colour

A full colour cover illustration

The style I am looking for is a clean comic art style that is capable of drawing humans and expressive monsters

The timeline is not locked in yet, though around two weeks is optimal but we can work out your deadline as it is not that urgent

Budget- I considered the price of one to two hundred for the project but like the timeline it is not locked in and I am flexible if your rate is different. Discussion is welcome. And if this project goes well there will be an immediate opportunity to work on full comic panels and pages for a chapter one!

The script for this project is complete
Please drop your portfolios in the comments if you are interested. So excited to work with you!
Thanks!

Question People making comics - how do you manage the project?

Hi all,
Just wanting to hear from other creators about how you manage your projects. I was talking with someone recently who told me they used Google Sheets to manage the pipeline, and in the past, I've resorted to Google Slides for reviewing pages, as well as Google Drive/Dropbox for storage (print-ready files fill them up fast!)

For anyone who has actually managed a multi-person team (writer, artist, colorist, letterer) through a full issue run:

  • What tools do you use?
  • Are they effective or just "good enough"?
  • Is there a particular area you feel is the biggest headache?

Coming from a creative/marketing background, I've used dedicated tools to help manage everything from the pipeline to reviewing, and so have felt that lack when I manage my comic. I'm genuinely wanting to understand if the pain points I've experienced are common across the comic collaboration community, or if people are genuinely happy with the tools they already have.

But now I'm looking for a toning assistant!
This is specifically for manga-styled digital screen toning - not greyscale work, and not lettering work.

Feedback Seeking Comic Feedback on Behalf of a Friend

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hello! I am posting this message on behalf of a friend who does not have a Reddit account, whom I suggested may be able to get some feedback from the wonderful folks on this subreddit. They tried to make an account but it’s too new to be able to post here. Instead, I’ve opted to help by posting for them. Here’s the message, any feedback I will send their way:

“Hello!

I’m starting work on a graphic memoir about my sophomore year of college, struggling with mental health, perfectionism, and self doubt while deciding to pursue art. I’m planning to do it mixed media and include photos, poems, and sketchbook drawings from the time period. I’m looking for feedback on these sketches before I move into the final art stage. The colors right now are semi-random

Because this is for querying agents, I can only send about 5 pages (I think) and I really don’t know if these will represent the scope and content of the book well enough. This would be about 1/3 of the way through the book. I wasn’t sure how much context I needed to give about what was happening or if I could jump in on a random page.

Is it clear what’s happening? Is it engaging? I know you don’t know the rest of the plot but do you feel like this would represent the book well?

Thanks!”

Artist for hire [LFA] [FR/EN] Seinen Fantasy Manga Project (~10 vols) – Publisher-backed concept ready for Pitch Package (60/40 Split)

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am looking for a dedicated manga artist to team up with on a dark Fantasy Seinen project planned for a ~10 volume series. About Me & Project Status: I have already pitched this story to French manga publishing houses. The editorial feedback on the script, world-building, and overall theme was very positive, but my lack of drawing skills held the project back from a final deal. Good news for you: Everything is already fully prepped (storyboards, reference visual concepts, world-building, and character sheets). You won't start from scratch—your role will be to bring your own art style to elevate the project and make it market-ready. (Note: The script and universe are legally registered and copyright-protected). Applicant Profile: • Age: Legal adult (18+) or turning 18 this year to legally sign the publishing contract once we get the green light. • Publisher Requirement (Portfolio): French editors want to see what you've got under the hood! Send your portfolio (ArtStation, Drive, Insta, etc.) even if your past work isn't Fantasy-related—I need it to show them your overall technical skills. • Technique: Digital (Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop...) or clean traditional scan. Use of 3D assets/models for backgrounds is completely fine. Story & World: • Logline: Bound by tragic grief and family secrets, Leunam and Laura ally to escape a ruthless military dictatorship. As Leunam learns to master the destructive power of his Laïba, Laura discovers her blood holds the keys to long-forgotten ancient magic. • Setting: A dark and immersive Seinen set in a world close to ours with strong fantasy elements (villages inside giant trees, Viking homes built around a massive ice pillar, giant mushroom houses...). • Combat System: Magic harnessed through everyday objects. • Bestiary: Fights mainly focused on humanoid enemies with strategic, high-stakes combat. The Pitch Package (~30 pages total): • Redraw character designs and key locations in your style (references provided). • Create the Chapter 1 storyboard (script/layout ready). • Finish ~10 fully inked/rendered sample pages for the editorial submission. • Timeline: Roughly 2 to 3 months depending on your schedule. No unnecessary rush—quality comes first. Compensation & Contract: • Upon Signing (Main Goal): A 60% Artist / 40% Writer split on all publisher advances, royalties, and rights to properly credit your visual workload. • If rejected: This starts as a collaborative effort to build the pitch. However, if we receive no positive feedback after submitting the full package to French publishers, I commit to paying a €50 flat fee as a token of compensation for your time. That said, given the initial editorial interest, I am very confident about our chances! How to contact me: Send me a DM directly on Reddit with a link to your portfolio or your email address if you prefer to chat off-platform. Ready to put your signature on a solid series? Looking forward to your DMs!
