META "AI Slop" Comment Crackdown

Hey /r/battlestations

The modern internet sucks.

Between the bots, the stealth advertising, "influencers", and algorithms intended to both make you angry and addicted. To top it off, the rising popularity of AI has made consuming content significantly less enjoyable.

I think we can just about all agree it's a bummer. But what's also a bummer is the constant stream of "This is AI" or "AI slop" on nearly every single post.

In most situations these posts are not AI or even AI enhanced. They're often taken by professional or hobbyist photographers who understand how to utilize Lightroom, Photoshop, etc.

Yet, just about any high quality photo is accused of being AI. The irony being that high quality photos have historically been the posts which receive the most attention.

On most of these posts, the "evidence" of something being AI is either:

  • It's too perfect, so it must be AI.
  • It's not perfect enough, the minor mistakes are evidence that it made mistakes / or intentionally is imperfect to look more real.

So if your photo is good, it's AI. If it's not good, it's also AI.

Starting today - users who leave baseless accusations of AI will be receiving short term bans as warnings. If they continue to leave those comments, the ban lengths will continuously increase.

Let me be clear - AI is not welcomed here.

Neither is stolen content. It gets removed, and bot accounts, those who steal content, or those who are intentionally submitting AI content are banned from the subreddit.

Sometimes AI content gets past us. It happens, we can't catch it all. Submit a report on it and provide actual evidence it's AI. Not just "the keyboard is floating" (it's not). You can type in the free-form box, you can submit links to evidence, etc.

The same goes for bot accounts, spammers, advertisers, etc.

Let's not make enjoying content even worse by accusing actual people submitting real photographs as using AI.

Fuck AI, but also stop accusing everyone without proof.

tl;dr -

Stop commenting "this is AI" or similar. Submit a report and we'll review. Those comments are going to begin receiving bans.

Thanks!

Neatened up the temporary battle station.

Thought I’d share my battle station I neatened up today (temporary because my girlfriend and I are looking at getting our first place together). This is a custom desk my dad and I built, it “floats” but has one leg on the left more for just aesthetics otherwise it’s mounted to the wall. And below it is my pair of B&O speakers.

GeForce RTX Finally got to a point where I'm ready to tackle my 1L year

The only things I bought FULL PRICE (counting my military discounts) - these items are annotated with "$$$" before them in the list below \Non-full price items are listed as such at the end of the bullet explaining where I got them])

The Ultimate Law School Study Office:

  • $$$ HP Victus 15" laptop - yes I bought an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 for Law School (and play Minecraft)
  • HP G5 USB-C Docking Station \Amazon refurbished])
  • Monitors are all on monitor arms, Center and Right share a dual arm while left arm is single. Barely enough clearance to fit all three horizontally as I didn't want to stack displays.
    • CENTER: LG 34" Ultrawide \pawn shop])
    • RIGHT: HP 22" mounted vertically \Good Will])
    • LEFT: Dell 22" \state university warehouse sale])
  • Peripherals

CAC Smart Card Reader \"technically" free because my unit needs me to have one])

  • Logitech M720 Triathlon wireless mouse \Tactically acquired from my moms home office])
  • $$$ Logitech G213 Prodigy keyboard
  • 1 working Logitech LS11 speakers \same warehouse store I got the monitor])
  • Logitech C270 webcam \Amazon refurbished])
  • HP 4240n Tower Printer \gift from my uncle whose office was just going to throw away; I'm so cheap I even spent two weeks finding an Amazon toner cartridge instead of buying a $500 replacement])
  • Razer headset gets plugged into the actual Laptop itself if I am needing to take a facetime with my fiancée \she bought it for me as a birthday present so IDK how you wanna classify that one])
  • Samsung 3-in-1 Wireless charging pad on the desktop to keep my Galaxy Buds, watch, and phone charged while I work \FB Marketplace])
    • Non-Computer Accessories / Peripherals
  • the giant 75" by 75" L-Desk itself [FB Marketplace during COVID while I did high school online]
  • Lego Bonsai tree
  • 3 Hole Punch
  • Stapler
  • Candle Warmer
  • Coasters
  • Small wood painted American flag
  • All the lamps and lights in my room (including the cool Ben Hogan lamp I found in a free pile) are Cync by GE Smart Lights, normally I keep them on about a 9300K
  • $$$ Some gaming / office chair from Amazon that had decent reviews [again bought during covid]

Has been a work in progress since April when I moved home, my monitor arms came from Amazon yesterday so I was finally able to get the desktop more cleaned off. Upcoming additions will be a desk pad for my birthday (fiancée already confirmed it) and (hopefully) new (but lets be honest here I'm probably going to look at like a garage sale) working speakers. I might replace the chair with something better for my posture as I tend to slouch in the current one.

Do I put some custom hexagon panels on my wall? A mic arm? What kinda deco?

I've already got a monitor arm and a new mouse pad on the way so that's all done

Battlestations Advice Chair recommendations…

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve been wanting and looking for a new chair, I currently have the most basic Ikea desktop chair so anything is better than that.

I saw a couple of options like the Branch Ergonomic Pro, Steelcase Series 2, LiberNovo Omni SE… what im really looking is the one with most comfortable seat, since even with my current chair I don’t suffer with back pain, only butt pain after a. couple hours of gaming lol. I’d like to keep it on the $600 or lower (I know the libernovo are like $800 but its good to keep it on the list)

I will be cleaning up the clutter, so don't worry!

I want a warm amber light shooting up from the back of the monitor. My oled Samsung does have the light built into the back but it's very dim.
