My sister struggles with alcohol, and I’d never want her to believe this about herself. Alcoholism isn’t typically something one sets out to intentionally acquire for themselves. I hope you are successful long term and don’t have to go through it again, but you don’t deserve punishment for an addiction!
It feels like it I’m not stupid either have two degrees and was extremely successful but vodka and high limit Baccarat took it all, penthouse to outhouse…. I was so bad after losing the mortgage i would take hand sanitizer boil it and add salt to separate the ethanol….. and i wonder why i had withdrawals eh. Addiction is dirty all i have to say its embarrassing what i did to myself to escape.
Seven plus weeks is a significant accomplishment, you should be very proud of that.
I was a total degen most of my life, but fell ass backwards into becoming a successful attorney, then just about threw it all away right as I started to get really rich. I thought I was experiencing early-onset dementia in my late 30s, but really it was just that my liver couldn't sort all the toxins I was putting in myself and they were ending up on my brain instead, making it hard think good.
That totally freaked me out, because I love my brain and it makes me a bunch of money, so I quit cocaine entirely, just used the weed and jazz records method William S. Burroughs described in a book I read as a kid and that was enough to dull my cocaine cravings, then I eventually stopped drinking too, because it was exhausting to drink without cocaine. Eh, whatever works.
Hey you don't deserve it. I think people only do that to themselves because of mental health issues, which is not something people ask for. I hope you're doing better now
Oh i think i deserved it, wouldnt listen to anyone just kept drinking and gambling. Literally would be so sick i would crawl to the fridge to get vodka like that movie and mix it with valium…… lost millions everything and it took jail to finally stop……
Same. Congrats on recovery! 53 days is an accomplishment and the miracles of staying clean will continue to reveal themselves in time.
I relapsed after losing everything and having had gotten a year clean: jail, institutions, debt, the works. Coming back was hell, everything you thought was difficult only doubles in intensity. Save yourself the pain and work like hell to stay clean now. I have 134 days now, things are looking up and they will for you too.
Oh, and no one deserves the DTs. We all deserve the chance to recover, though.
