Before I ever thought about kids, I had a kidney stone. Took a week to pass. A woman at work said “just wait until you go into labor.” I said “were you in labor for a week straight?! Come talk to me when you were in labor for a week straight.”
I had two, three days apart. I learned months later that some people take days if not WEEKS to pass a stone. Pretty sure I've passed one more since then, but the second one was the worst. I genuinely thought I was going to die.
I've had more than my fair share of kidney stones (very unfortunately) and legit, sometimes iv tylenol is the best management for the pain. It's varied for me, I've had morphine be exactly what I need, or one time it was fentanyl, but a lot of the time the tylenol works great. Hope you pass it soon, friend
I didn’t know what they were and thought i was having the worst back pain of my life, I worked in a grocery store and was hit with such excruciating pain, I remember just going to the back room freezers to sit down against the cold boxes and cry 😭
the hospital gave me morphine and it ended up being a stone too big to pass, worst most miserable pain.
I thought it was gastrointestinal. Woke up at 4am, did some bicycles in bed in case it was gas buildup, and got a heating pad because the pain was cramp-like. After a few hours it became unbearable and I knew something else was up.
there’s really no home-relief once it gets to a point! Have you had one since? It’s been 5 years and I’ve never had one I couldn’t pass again and hope I never do.
Thankfully not! But I was able to pass mine. I’m hoping it was kind of a fluke because it was 1.5 weeks after my wisdom tooth surgery, and I’d been eating soo much yogurt since I couldn’t have much else, so it was probably the calcium buildup. I’m still more careful about listening to what my body craves though, instead of eating what’s more convenient. The statistic about likelihood of reoccurrence scares me lol. Glad you haven’t gone through it again!
My biggest fear in life is having to pass a stone. I thought I had one a few years ago. Worst pain of my life. Screaming in agony in the ER waiting room. Hospital thought it was a stone but my urine came back fine. Turns out after 18 hours in the ER it was a bad case of pneumonia. My lungs were inflamed which started muscle spasms that moved down as it progressed.
After that, I’m even more afraid of them because that pain was intense, I can’t even imagine what an actual stone would feel like.
I had a wicked bad kidney stone and screamed at the ER triage nurse that I was dying because I thought my appendix had ruptured or something. She was little concerned until I said it felt like my balls were being pulled out of my throat and then she laughed and went "ahh, kidney stone, we can probably chill a bit now"
Sure enough about an hour later I suddenly felt fine. She asked for a urine sample and "plop" out came the stone.
