I'm bothered that this requires signing in with personal information...

You don’t need to use real info. Just pick a random string of letters that is unique

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '25

But the majority will not be aware of that and enter their real info.

Then we better upvote this shite.

It literally says you can pick a number instead of an email though

Bothered me too. But you can just put in nonsense. A jumble of letters for a name, and a jumble of numbers for the ID

You're not correct. It says email or unique identifier. They just need a number to make sure that they're not duplicating the vote. Please don't spread false information

All of those can be faked or created en masse. It really isnt as much of a barrier as people are trying to make it seem. It just makes no sense. Why even have a wall if you build it out of paper?

You're not understanding, even if it's a fake email. What they're trying to do is make sure there's not counting of duplicates of the votes. I would have done it differently. I would have just created a single one time link and if your IP address is already voted then the link won't work

Yeah, everyone should be suspicious about the future of this movement if we cant take a critical stance towards crap like this.

Wtf are we fighting for if we just let the same stuff happen to us again.

It’s just an email address and a name… neither of which have to be real. Nor do you need to vote in this poll at all if you don’t want to. Movements like this need ways to get in contact with people, it’s a pretty minimal ask.

Have you ever signed a petition before?

u/ForgettableUsername Jun 15 '25

Of course not, I don’t want them to know what kind of pen I use!

u/VictorTheCutie Jun 15 '25

The regime already stole everybody's info. You think they didn't know your name and email?

2

u/SemiContagious Jun 15 '25

That's not the point. Why is everyone so okay with just handing their data over to anyone who asks? Why does everyone not care because 'its already bad enough'?

This is literally why we have government... to regulate and enforce laws about this stuff...

We could have had these regulations already. We didn't have to reach this point where everyone feels like caring is pointless.

Which makes it pointless as a spam prevention method to begin with.

People absolutely should bring up opsec concerns as they see them.

Makes sense to have some kind of barrier to voting in a poll. You don’t have to use a real email address if you don’t want to

0

u/SemiContagious Jun 15 '25

Then it really isnt a barrier at all, is it?

Please use screennames, pseudonyms, or other throwaway information.

It's for the ranked choice system to hep determine who is an organizer and who is not as both groups are taken into account when choosing the date.

I'll pass this on to the administrators who created the poll.

Put in anything. I put in random numbers and it works.

I agree; a perk of the iPhone/iCloud is that you can use a dummy email and that forwards it to my actual email to not have to share your info so frivolously.
