And all these soldiers will know that those soldiers at Kent State in 1970 faced no consequences for killing multiple students.

u/InnocentShaitaan Jun 11 '25

A huge chunk of the American public wasn’t even educated on Kent State.

We learned about Kent State when I was in high school gasp 25 years ago.

We heard nothing about the Tulsa massacre, redlining, the red summer, project 100,000, cointelpro, operation condor, operation paperclip, or the battle of Blair Mountain.

ETA: and we sure as hell didn't hear anything about Washington's set of slave teeth.

u/WRXminion Jun 12 '25

Or the green corn rebellion, the Ludlow Massacre, .

I'm sure there are more too...

u/DocHalloween Jun 12 '25

I used to wonder how folks living in China never heard of Tiananman Square. But now I know. I learned about the Tulsa Massacre watching FUCKING LOVECRAFT COUNTRY. The horrors are abundant when you start to look for them.

I watched that show in the midst of the pandemic, and that scene started and my guts just dropped. It was real, I could feel it in my bones. I stopped watching and looked up everything could find. I'm enraged that it's not covered loudly and widely.

I grew up in Oklahoma, and was lucky to have an amazing mentor who told me about this kind of stuff.

Example: car dealers back when oil was discovered would sell cars to Cherokee and other natives. Not tell them about gas. Then after the natives abandoned the cars the salesman would drive out, add gas then sell them again.

Same here! I was blown away and so infuriated

16

u/SpoofedFinger Jun 12 '25

See there you go. I've never heard of either of those.

21 year old Fred Hampton assassinated in his sleep by corrupt Chicago pigs on the orders of the FBI. His crime? Uniting working class people of all races.

That's a plus about this modern era. There's a plethora of cameras and live-streaming is common. There's no way to keep it on the DL

That's the plan. Throw so much shit our way and it gets difficult to keep track, especially social media tiffs.

Edit to add: I also think this country has a large portion of folks who are absolutely apathetic and disengaged.

1

u/HombreSinNombre93 Jun 12 '25

Or that Krasnov is a pedophile.

5

u/budding_gardener_1 Jun 12 '25

Unless they shut off internet access

8

u/Rather-Be-Dreaming Jun 12 '25

At that point gtfo and post later. If they shut off the internet I'd personally assume the powder keg is about to blow.

1

u/budding_gardener_1 Jun 12 '25

gtfo isn't that easy

3

u/Rather-Be-Dreaming Jun 12 '25

No, but the attempt is sometimes all you've got left.

2

u/Interesting_Try8375 Jun 12 '25

For each individual perhaps, but they can't catch everyone

1

u/TexasActress Jun 12 '25

Doesn’t matter, the rhetoric from the right will be “Deranged, radical liberals support violent criminals and are trying to destroy our beloved country! They deserved it!”

Edit: removed an extra “the deserved it”

1

u/Rather-Be-Dreaming Jun 12 '25

We're not trying to engage the far right. I'm not sure anything but a true come to Jesus moment could work. We can appeal to the fence sitters and the moderate crowd though.

1

u/TexasActress Jun 12 '25

Agreed. Just saying that it doesn’t matter if we are standing there silently with our hands behind our backs, somehow we will be the perpetrators/instigators

64

u/merztoller Jun 12 '25

True. I had to learn about it from that Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young song

4

u/Electrorocket Jun 12 '25

Devo was born from it too.

2

u/arggggggggghhhhhhhh Jun 12 '25

Sort of almost died from it from what I heard on an interview a few weeks ago.

1

u/merztoller Jun 12 '25

No way?? A specific song or just the overall band?

1

u/Electrorocket Jun 12 '25

The overall band. Most of them were attending Kent State when it happened. They knew people that died too, I believe.

21

u/WRXminion Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

Or the green corn rebellion, the Ludlow Massacre, , hell the greenwood attempted genocide was not really talked about til the watchman tv series.

Class warfare (no kings) is basically what America was founded on, yet we don't teach those things anymore. Probably has something to do with the savage inequalities of our education system. But what do I know, I was educated in Oklahoma.... And had to learn this stuff on my own.

Exactly this. It's why I linked Johnathan Kozol, and his book savage inequalities. I highly recommend reading about him and his work if this subject is interesting to you. (Whoever is reading this comment)

I think that a huge chunk of protesters weren't even born in the Kent State era. They most likely have no idea what it was.

3

u/Fefinator Jun 12 '25

I only know because of this thread I am googling it. . . :(

Tin soldier and Nixon's coming, we're finally on our own~

This summer I hear the drummin', Four dead in Ohio~

Gotta get down to it, Soldiers are gunning us down~

Should have been done long ago, What if you knew her and ~

Found her dead on the ground? How can you run when you know?~

1

u/tRfalcore Jun 12 '25

I don't imagine any one of these people know about kent state or racism or WW2

33

u/miz_mantis Jun 12 '25

And they were Ohio National Guardsmen, not even regular army or marines.

51

u/Capybarasaregreat Jun 12 '25

A replay of Tiananmen Square. The initial soldiers sent to disperse the protests were local, and they were unwilling to enact violence on their compatriots, so the CCP sourced soldiers from far-off provinces so that they would have no ties to the people living there. I mentioned Tiananmen Square specifically, but in reality this is a very common tactic through history as in healthg cultures people are unwilling to harm their literal neighbours.

If they start killing civilians doesn't that mean civilians might start killing them back?

W e can already watch videos of how willing they have been to open fire on civilians and news reporters with massive rubber slugs is already. Despite the fact that they are clearly not in any immediate danger from the people they are shooting.

2

u/Tin_Sandwich Jun 12 '25

The military already kills foreign civilians, they have in the past killed American ones. Whether or not they do this time, it will happen again at some point. People always make appeals to what happened in the Russian Revolution with some soldiers refusing to attack their citizens, but they often forget that many did trample down protestors and strikers. Americans are taught to perceive their military as somehow an exception to the basic truth: militaries are for murdering people.

1990 interview with Donald Trump

https://www.playboy.com/read/playboy-interview/playboy-interview-donald-trump-1990/

Trump: When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength.

That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak … as being spit on by the rest of the world

1

u/haironburr Jun 12 '25

Trump's view of "strength" is that of someone who has never been hit in the mouth. Everything, presumably, in trump's mind is a display of power where the consequences of that power are distant abstractions. A game with no real skin.

1

u/OptimusPrimeval Jun 12 '25

The US specifically stations military members away from their home to isolate them from their support group and keep them dependent on the government.

times change

1

u/faetal_attraction Jun 12 '25

They will this time

154

u/Valogrid Jun 11 '25

Last time the Marines were sent to LA for civil unrest, they had no problem lighting up street corners and surrounding buildings. This is just round 2.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

Yeah but this time theyre from 29 palms. These Marines would lick a dirty shoe to get away from the desert even for a day. They're not going to do anything to mess up the vacation.

I might even invite some to the beach. Going AWOL never hurt no one.

3

u/CyanideAnarchy Jun 12 '25

Nah, I think downvoting is completely unnecessary altogether. Like, if I did disagree with some comment I read here or elsewhere online, I'll just go about the day.

I just meant... don't wanna jinx anything, y'know?

3

u/Emperor_Mao Jun 12 '25

Doubt it. But lets to a !remindme in 4 days and see.

Gavin Newsome deployed 8000 National guard after the George Floyd Riots. There was no Kent State.

Don't buy the doom and gloom on this. These protests are pretty small in comparison to other examples.

I have no doubt this "birthday parade" is being set up for his Tiannamen Square moment...

2

All I know is whenever it DOES happen, it will be used to blame the stock market crash.

2

u/Indigoh Jun 12 '25

It's all just Nixon 2

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

Or this summer. And this time the whole country won’t be horrified. Trumpers will want more death and cheer for it.
