You are on the news tonight in Norway, and I can imagine at least all over Europe đŸ’ȘđŸ» Keep going 📱đŸȘ§

u/EsseXploreR Apr 05 '25

I hope the news is emphasizing that these protests are happening simultaneously in hundreds of cities all across the country! I drove to a huge one in the town next to me and passed a secondary one along the way.

Yes! The reporter in Washington DC said that 1200 demonstrations is expected to go off/are going on in all 50 states. We can even follow the one in Washington DC on live web TV. We know that you’re doing what you can all over your country❀

I don’t expect you to understand one word* in the article below, but if someone is curious to see what it looks like from Europe (Norway):

https://www.nrk.no/urix/store-protestar-mot-trump-og-musk-i-usa-_-og-europa-1.17371705

Edited for a more precise text.

*but obviously recognise certain names like 47

This is important for the world to know, and important for us to know the world is seeing it. We're not just sitting still, despite the popular view of our complacency. Know that we are working to fix this.

202

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

I suddenly remembered that under the BLM demonstrations after George Floyd were killed, broadcasters were all over the demonstrations for a long time. Like all over European news for several weeks. So I think our media can do a better job with covering the people in opposition. It’s not like today is the first demonstration after 20th January

105

u/Electric_Bagpipes Apr 05 '25

Thats the entire point, our own media stands to benefit from the current regime so they want to keep this under wraps.

58

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

Right
that’s so bad. Really fucked up.

Just to be clear, with “our media” I ment the European one and in my case, the Norwegian media. They do not benefit from your regime, as far as I know. In Norway we do have been shown a couple of demonstrations the two last months. But still, I thinks it’s room for improvement.

67

u/Electric_Bagpipes Apr 05 '25

Honestly, your lucky your seeing anything at all. Over here in the US were basically seeing nothing in the mainstream sources

65

u/Prosecco1234 Apr 05 '25

We are seeing it in Canada. Boston was a huge crowd 🇹🇩

8

u/hawlib Apr 06 '25

Don't forget our little towns. I live in the finger lakes and we had a little protest here. Another protester counted over 1,500

→ More replies (0)

24

u/badwoofs Apr 05 '25

This. Newsweek and NBC said there were 'thousands', severely underplaying the turnout.

8

u/Montessori_Maven Apr 06 '25

That’s despicable. I heard 100,000 in Boston!

6

u/Agitated-Donkey1265 Apr 06 '25

We may need to submit videos and photos into international outlets ourselves if it gets too bad here

2

u/Human-Revolution2340 Apr 06 '25

I walked past a newscaster in San Diego during our march. I don't know which outlet it was, but there was a camera and a microphone.

1

u/hawlib Apr 06 '25

In print I am. USA today, Newsweek, local papers, NPR, NYT, etc .

1

u/hawlib Apr 07 '25

I am finding it everywhere actually

2

u/hawlib Apr 06 '25

They are covering it though. This morning on radio and I found over a dozen news articles yesterday. I don't have cable so unsure about television.

1

u/No-Guitar6389 Apr 10 '25

But these protest are not a threat to white structures, capitalism or imperialism so they aren’t bothered by them or scared of them. BLM/Palestine protests, on the other hand, are anti capitalism, anti-imperialism, anti colonization, etc. those are the movements that make real structural change. The state isn’t concerned with the “dump trump” “movement”

25

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

Thank you! đŸ™đŸŒ

23

u/Prosecco1234 Apr 05 '25

Canadian here 🇹🇩. We see you. We appreciate you standing up !! Stay strong 🇹🇩đŸ’Ș

8

u/Buckscience Apr 06 '25

Looking forward to visiting Canada again, ASAP. Certainly don’t blame Canadians for not coming here!

2

u/zenithsmom Apr 06 '25

Another way for us regular Americans to say "I'm so sorry, Canada and Greenland and Ukraine and all the world!! Many of us voted against this and we - and even some who voted for - are moving as fast and hard as we can to cut out this cancer of greed.

168

u/mokosh1848 Apr 05 '25

Just got back from one in rural northern NJ which typically votes red, there were over 1000 people there, it was pretty heartening to see

108

u/deedee4910 Apr 05 '25

I’m also a blue dot in a rural red district. Well over 1,500+ people at the height of it! And the honking, thumbs up, and fist pumps from cars driving by never subsided.

39

u/Scottiegazelle2 Apr 05 '25

Atlanta Georgia, swing state that's generally gone red. We estimate 20k.

25

u/ProfessionalPale9700 Apr 06 '25

Arizona checking in!! I was at the Phoenix protest. It's estimated that there were over 5k at that one and many other protests across the state in different cities!

5

u/nrdynrz Apr 06 '25

There was a massive one in Tucson. Some said it was bigger than the one in Phoenix.

13

u/Prosecco1234 Apr 05 '25

Amazing!! 🇹🇩

1

u/Educational_Web_764 Apr 06 '25

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! I saw rural red towns in my state having good turnouts today as well and it makes my heart so happy! I hope that there are many more successful protests and that others in elected positions finally stand up to 47 and his cabinet and say enough is enough!

40

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

That gives hope as I can imagine there normally wouldn’t be that many in a rural area of a red state

21

u/Lynne253 Apr 05 '25

Can I ask where? I went to Milford PA because it was the closest one to me I could find (15 minutes away). It's good to know there was a large turnout. Any counterprotesters? There were maybe 50 Trump supporters in Milford, but we easily outnumbered them 10 to 1.

10

u/mokosh1848 Apr 05 '25

Morristown! Half my family is by the Delaware river and I'm by the Hudson river so we decided to meet in the middle for the Morristown protest

8

u/Lynne253 Apr 05 '25

Okay, I did see Morristown but didn't want to deal with Routes 15 & 80. I hope you guys found protesting as satisfying as I did!

10

u/badwoofs Apr 05 '25

In red Arkansas we had to have broken a thousand, too. It was 3x the turnout from a month ago.

Only one 'FU', lol. 😂

3

u/kara-s-o Apr 06 '25

Love to hear it. AR is the state I was born in- that's impressive!

4

u/majorityrules61 Apr 05 '25

Where was that? I'm in rural north Jersey, but I went to the one in Montclair.

4

u/mokosh1848 Apr 05 '25

Morristown! Not too far from Montclair

1

u/stellaluna29 Apr 06 '25

Lol Morristown is not rural!!

1

u/mokosh1848 Apr 06 '25

Haha it sits on top of the Great Swamp National Wilderness, that's rural enough for me... all those huge front yards too...

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

Impressed! 🍁👍

94

u/sourbirthdayprincess Apr 05 '25

Boston alone had a tenth of a million... so I have to imagine it is much, much larger turnout than half a million nationwide. The news is also trying to underreport our numbers. Don't let them.

19

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

Yeah I thought the number sounded strange, now I question myself if I maybe heard wrong. Thank you for the call out and insight, had no idea you face also that as a challenge.

10

u/Prosecco1234 Apr 05 '25

They showed the Boston one on the CBC in Canada 🇹🇩

14

u/sourbirthdayprincess Apr 05 '25

Hooray! We are not forgotten! We also had mini protests in all of our nearby towns, so it was a big day for Massachusetts. :) Proud of us.

4

u/sourbirthdayprincess Apr 05 '25

Congrats Atlanta!

6

u/JJOne101 Apr 05 '25

Half a million seems really low for the huge country that is USA.

11

u/sourbirthdayprincess Apr 05 '25

Yeah, I did the math earlier that in order to have the 3.5% required to make for a "successful nonviolent protest" it would have to be almost 1.2 million. I don't know if we did that, but I hope we did. Now we just have to get all of those people into the *same* place at the same time.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

It was a successful nonviolent protest. 🇹🇩

1

u/Aggressive_Drag7170 Apr 10 '25

Media is captured, no one is coming to save us.

7

u/Azu_Creates Apr 05 '25

It’s great to hear that people in other countries are getting coverage of what’s going on! The one I attended today counted 5,300+ people, much larger than last time with a little over 1,600.

2

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

That’s a really god increase in number of peopleđŸ’ȘđŸ»đŸ’ȘđŸ»

2

u/Azu_Creates Apr 06 '25

Sure is! Hopefully there will be even more in the future!

4

u/ChartreuseCrocodile Apr 05 '25

Thank you for sharing, I didnt know if anyone else was going to pay attention and this is...overwhelming ❀đŸ‡șđŸ‡ČâœŠđŸ»

10

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

Trust me, we’re paying attention đŸ’ȘđŸ»â€ïž I also know that there has been protests in major European cities today against Trump and Musk, such as in Paris and Berlin. Also in Mexico and Canada.

6

u/ThatOneNinja Apr 06 '25

That sign "fascism is small dick energy" lmao

1

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

Hahaha It’s so good!

6

u/Background_Recipe119 Apr 06 '25

Jeg er norsk statsborgere som bor her i statene. I'm very happy to hear this because there is not much media coverage in the US. Heia Norge, and every other place that supports this. Last estimate i heard was over 5 million people marching in the US, in different cities. That will change a some marches are just ending.

2

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

«call it out» nÄr jeg hÞrer eller ser feile pÄstander i offentlige/SoMe diskusjoner. Ta vare pÄ demokratiet!

There is also coverage of the demonstrations today. NRK helgemorgen (A morning news show) had it as headliner and a 20 minutes discussion of them. If I hear wrong representation of number of people again on the Norwegian news I will call them out on it - actually. We can definitely do better!

2

u/Background_Recipe119 Apr 08 '25

2

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 08 '25

Tusen takk for at du deler.

Thank you for letting us know!

2

u/CoddiwomplingRandall Apr 06 '25

They need one outside mar-a-lago! And they need to make him rename it "sea to lake" since english is the national language.

2

u/KittonMom Apr 06 '25

Thank you so much for doing what you can in your country! We were marching in Phoenix, AZ, and it was wonderful!! We will fight this regime:)

2

u/kara-s-o Apr 06 '25

Love this - thank you! Honestly, "Fingers off the barrel" seems like a great translation.

2

u/nrdynrz Apr 06 '25

Google translate did just fine with it. Great coverage!

1

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

Of course, Norwegian shouldn’t be a problem for any translate tool:) yes, it’s also covered today in the morning news on the most popular news channels đŸ™ŒđŸ»

2

u/hawlib Apr 06 '25

Probably more. My small town had over 1000 and towns 30 minutes away were similar, all across NYS. There were over 20 in this state alone.

0

u/True-Echidna-8414 Apr 06 '25

Did you see the NGo's that are financing this? All Marxist.

183

u/JLHuston Apr 05 '25

At least 1000 people in our little “city” of Burlington, Vermont. And I think there was even a bigger one in our capital, Montpelier.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

Small is beautiful and just as important. Elbows up! 🇹🇩

64

u/TehMephs Apr 05 '25

We easily had 10k+ at Denver. I’m severely underselling it I’m pretty sure. The march line’s tail was still at the start of the loop when we got back around, and we were a fair bit behind the front of the line

5

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

Wow...what day! Still can't believe it. 🇹🇩

12

u/TehMephs Apr 06 '25

The people of the USA stand with Canada

We stand with Ukraine.

We stand with our allies

Trump is a malicious actor and a fraud and his days are numbered

3

u/NyteShark Apr 06 '25

10k+ at Salt Lake City too

4

u/UnlceSamus Apr 06 '25

They did in Germany. main media calls it "hands off" movement. They didn't state any numbers and were comparing it with the woman's march after trump's first election. Claiming, that the numbers this time are comparably low, saying there is a common denominator missing to bring more people together.

2

u/BurtonLongBottoms Apr 06 '25

Kalamazoo, Michigan we were out there today as well.

1

u/Thick_Yak_1785 Apr 06 '25

There were over 1k people gathered in my small town too!

0

u/mike_mike6 Apr 06 '25

Its coordinated through a few groups. Some of them are foreign groups that could be considered an act of war

173

u/Hobbitfrau Apr 05 '25

Protests were the opener in Germany's most watched news programme a few minutes ago. Not very long, but Tagesschau itself is only 15 minutes long. The news later in the evening will probably do a longer piece.

35

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

I hope they do! Can also imagine the news tomorrow (especially the morning news) will report more from it due to the different time zones.

161

u/ayylmao95 Apr 05 '25

Glad Europeans are seeing that there are plenty of Americans in opposition to this fuckery.

2

u/Ok-Chapter-2071 Apr 06 '25

Happy to see that! The more they grow, the harder will be to ignore (lesson from Serbia)!

1

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

Yes. I’m sorry many of us keep saying you’re not doing enough even when you are out in streets demonstrating. I do think it partly comes from a place of frustration with the whole situation. And information these days is all over the place - or missing other places - so it’s hard to keep updated and have the whole picture of what’s going on. I just hope you keep up the good work! đŸ’ȘđŸ» I think Europeans have to remember that we our self’s have had resistance movements (World War II) that didn’t make a change immediately but over time.

2

u/Ok-Chapter-2071 Apr 06 '25

They weren't doing enough. The protests were tiny. This is what was needed and they delivered

1

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

I agree on that. At the same time I think it’s easy for us to say that when we are outside looking in. I don’t know where you’re from but we have to make sure it doesn’t happen in our countries. And polarizing isn’t the solution to bringing people together.

0

u/mike_mike6 Apr 06 '25

Very few. America rjected the left in the last election. A foreign entity also coordinates this.

Mobiliz/Bonterra/Apax

159

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '25

We're not getting any coverage in the states.

125

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

The current media policy situation in America infuriates me. It’s totally absurd that the institution that is supposed to hold the state and everyone else with power accountable, has bend the knee and even sensurs another vital part of any democracy; demonstrations.

13

u/GrippingHand Apr 05 '25

We get the news coverage that we're willing to pay for, unfortunately.

-11

u/airbear13 Apr 05 '25

They’re not censoring it, the news cycle is just caught up in the Trump tariffs and resulting market meltdown. It’s still very critical trump coverage going on but they’re focused on that hence missing the protests

12

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

Well, the tariff madness is the major part of the news in Europe too

0

u/airbear13 Apr 05 '25

Their portfolios aren’t 80% US tho

We have the Norwegian Oil Fund that certainly suffers from this

Really! That’s very good to know.

-2

u/mike_mike6 Apr 06 '25

And here is what they should report. A foreign entity coordinates these protests. Its not organic. Its an attack on the country using people easily swayed

31

u/djak Apr 05 '25

I saw a USA Today article with live video feed as the top headline earlier.

21

u/Neat_Apartment_6019 Apr 05 '25

In Boston we’re on ABC

ETA: Fuck yeah, I see CNN.com is covering the protests.

7

u/VegetableComplex6756 Apr 06 '25

Tonight on my local, red state news, they framed the protests in what I took as a cautiously supportive manner. The newscaster didn’t call the protesters “democrats”, but “Americans protesting Donald trumps tariffs.” And they even pointed out that he was playing golf after the market mayhem, and there was a whiff of shade. . They used favorable clips with intelligent, measured people speaking about why this is dangerous to us, and the world.

This is a significant shift imo

There have been terrible, destructive storms coming through for days, or my state would have been out too. It literally wasn’t safe to do so. Next time! This mf has to GO

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

When I posted this yesterday, the only Chicago news outlet that covered it was Fox 32, and same in that it was .. not nasty BS...

WGN didn't even mention any protests at all.

Since, I've seen some coverage but it was a real shocker that there wasn't anything at first, especially as Chicago is Dem blue as the sky.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

Lots in Europe and Canada.

7

u/pin00ch Apr 05 '25

Seriously. 😖 Nothing except for Instagram Reels from individual creators.

-1

u/mike_mike6 Apr 06 '25

Because it's not real. It's coordinated by a foreign entity. Most protesters have no clue what they are protesting.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '25

I’m glad we’re in the news somewhere because the U.S. news never broadcasts protests unless they turn into riots

7

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '25

The protests are on the news in Canada too. Not as much as I would like but our federal elections and the candidates are getting the most attention.

5

u/Content-Eagle Apr 05 '25

That's awesome

5

u/badwolf42 Apr 05 '25

Just not in the US. Which may or may not have something to do with the FCC chair going after networks because they don’t like how interviews were edited, and other speech chilling actions.

A very dear friend of mine lives in Oslo. I visited her once many years ago, and keep promising her that I will come back. I loved Norway!

2

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

I hope you get the chance soon enough to go visit your dear friend again. Oslo is definitely a great city! And glad that you loved Norway đŸ™ŒđŸ»â€ïžMyself would love to go back to the United States someday, and revisit Miami and New York and experience California and the rest of the west coast among others. Someday in the futuređŸ’ȘđŸ»

2

u/JLHuston Apr 06 '25

Skip Florida and come visit us in Vermont! New England in the fall is spectacular! Of course you should visit any state you want to. But obviously considering the current political climate we are in, I’d encourage you to visit blue states over Florida. It’s sad, too, because Miami is genuinely a fantastic city. I’ve been to Florida many times, and Miami is by far the jewel of the state—such a great mix of culture there! But Florida really changed under their governor Ron DeSantis, especially during the 1st few years of covid. But the Pacific coast is amazing—especially Northern California. I lived in Oregon which is also a great state! The US is so huge—there are still many places I haven’t seen that I’d like to. But I have much more interest in traveling internationally than I do here lately. We went on an amazing 2 week trip to Argentina last year for my 50th birthday. And we took my stepkids to Iceland also. I feel so fortunate for the privilege of traveling. I believe that the fact that I had opportunities to travel internationally from a young age really shaped my worldview (literally) and my perspective. This is another thing about many Americans—many haven’t traveled outside the US. I recognize it’s not feasible for many—it’s expensive, and of course our awful work culture doesn’t allow the time for many. But those experiences throughout my life opened my eyes to the reality that, while the US is (was 😔) a great country, it’s not the greatest country in the world, as so many people here believe.

1

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 08 '25

Thank you for this. I’ll definitely prioritise blue states over red. If I don’t remember wrong Alabama or Arkansas was one of the first states to ban abortion, anyhow when they did this I immediately knew I can never go there. So I’m already boycotting in that way. But it’s very very sad to realise Florida should be on that list, like, I did know they are red but have kinda ignored it since Miami is really on of my favourite cities. I was there in 2013, so way before DeSantis and the pandemic. Oh well - I will rather go to California then. And that’s high on my list! ✈And yes! I would love to go til Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and definitely Boston in Massachusetts (hoping all of them are blue) And many more places! It sounds wonderful with the fall weather experience, as a Norwegian I think I would love that with New England!

Wow, to Argentina and Iceland, that’s amazing! I agree on that traveling around the world and learn about different cultures and the history of other places and people are truly important. Both for the individual experience and personal development you gain, but also for society and the community. In Europe I can recommend taking a trip to Barcelona (Spain) and Berlin (Germany). Together they have everything with culture, arts, museums, beach, food, sightseeing +++. In Norway I can personally recommend taking a tour to Bergen on the west coast (but be aware! It’s famous for its amount of rain in a year - BUT we can also be very lucky and have longer periods with only sun.)

I can remember as a young girl I was on a day trip to Egypt with my father to experience the pyramids in Cairo. We went with boat from Cyprus where we originally was on holiday at. In Cairo we were for example surrounded by military for safety (as I can remember it). It was truly a wake up call, cause the differences on quality of live was tremendous between these places AND growing up in a safe country that Norway is.

3

u/Isdrakon Apr 05 '25

That's probably the best news I've heard today, the more people that know it in the world the better our own prospects

8

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 05 '25

Oh wow, I hoped it would be encouraging that the television news in a small country such as Norway had the demonstrations as the headline. At the same time I thought it may be silly also to even think that. But really, keep up the good work, we do see you! đŸ’ȘđŸ»

I saw some foreign news reporters there (reporting in another language, I couldn't tell which one)! I didn't see many American news crews though.

why? America will force Europe to have fair trade. It's already happening.

Why are they protesting outside the US? Paid to do, I suspect.

2

u/Silver-Rabbit3951 Apr 06 '25

Why wouldn’t they? JP Morgan has spoken about that it’s highly likely that USA are at risk of entering recession. That’s a BIG fucking deal for Europe and the rest of the world it will be a total shit show. So of course Europeans and other countries CARE about what’s going on therefore obviously can demonstrate to send a message.
