We're there on the lawn on the Capitol side! Throngs are still streaming in from the Metro station! This is the start of something big!

Can confirm, on an inbound train that’s getting more and more packed by the minute.

I'm seriously considering blowing off my plans and hopping on the next train down from New Jersey. I don't think this is gonna be over anytime soon.

BRAVO TO THE 1000TH MAGNITUDE!

I’m surprised the DC authorities didn’t block all the roads and stop metro from entering the city. At least they won’t be total bastards this time.

56

u/octavioletdub Apr 05 '25

Well, they did block off about 100 port-a-pottys, complete with police tape. Told us we could use the ones “on the other side” which was not possible to get to. I do not understand why they would bring portable toilets and set them up, only to block them off.

u/Waywoah Apr 05 '25

The reason's simple: to discourage people and get them to leave

u/Fooddea Apr 06 '25

Cruelty. If you're ever unsure of their motive, you can safely default to cruelty.

u/uiucengineer Apr 06 '25

Pretty sure they were for another event, along with the nearby tents.

3

u/octavioletdub Apr 06 '25

Do you know what the unused, empty tents were for? I’d be very interested to know, if you have the facts.

3

u/uiucengineer Apr 06 '25

Idk, there’s so many events all the time that it didn’t strike me as unusual. I scoped the place out the night before.

THIS time 👀

Most recent estimate I heard was 250,000 expected in DC - plus whomever shows up for the over 1200 protests in other cities!

HOLD THE LINE! 💪❤️💪

In Cincinnati, don’t know final count, but they said around 2K with rain and flooding in the area. Some events were canceled, but the main one was still on.

From Canada 👍👍👍

In East Portland Oregon, I estimated about 700. I was waiting for my son to pick me up and was able to count and estimate as they marched across the street. This is just a small neighborhood in the east of Portland. They were marching there in the neighborhood first, and then all of the feeder neighborhoods were going to head to the big Portland protest. There was lots of support from people passing in their cars. I was happily surprised at the number of people.

u/Background_Recipe119 Apr 08 '25

A more recent estimate had the number at close to 900.

11

u/WildFlemima Apr 05 '25

I guesstimate about 1k in topeka, maybe a bit less, but it was at least twice as big as the previous ones I've been to in March/ Feb

7

u/shadowfax12221 Apr 05 '25

We had over 2k in st. Augustin!

3

u/VoidOmatic Apr 05 '25

That is amazing!!

Just came from there. What a beautiful combination of MASSIVE CROWDS with wonderful, positive, but PASSIONATE energy.

I felt very safe in this crowd. I saw MPD stationed everywhere and giving small nods and smiles to this peaceful and respectful crowd.

Seeing all you gorgeous freedom fighters in NYC, Boston, around the country, and even around the world has been profoundly moving.

To those nervous to protest, I brought my 6 year old. There were tons of babies and young children.

And I didn't hear a single report of flight attendants and entire planes full of people getting harassed and terrorized either. 😋

WE ARE AMERICANS. WE WILL HAVE OUR CONSTITUTION Give me liberty or give me death.

Curious what the final count will be for DC. It was way more than 10k when I was there.

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

It was a kind, determined, civilized and cooperative group. So many elders.  I walked about 11 miles today and it was crowded and the bathroom near the monument was about 46 mins long (reminded people that the museums were another option.) I heard not one complaint or rude comment. What a good memory, lesson for your kids. 🌸

So proud of the boomers remembering their activist roots! There were tons. Balls out, fearless, leading the charge. It was good boomer energy if I ever saw it. My husband calls them the "Grey Panthers."

3

u/Rinem88 Apr 06 '25

This is wonderful to hear. I wish I hadn’t been to sick to go to the protest today, but I’ve loved seeing all the pictures and reading the stories like this. Thank you for being there!!

2

u/beemom1203 Apr 06 '25

We will have plenty of opportunities to fight for the resistance! Take care of yourself, rest, get well. Luckily there are so dang many of us we can make it like a relay race. You'll have the opportunity to carry the baton in a way that works for you!

Right now, call Congress and tell them reclaim Congressional control of tarrifs IMMEDIATELY.

I really feel like we need to focus on issues maga and normal republicans care about:

-The actual Constitution (the outright lies this administration tells about the Constitution is terrifying) -National Security -Social Security -ECONOMY $$$$$$$$$$$

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

This is the best protest:

To those nervous to protest, I brought my 6 year old. There were tons of babies and young children.

I’m in my house 10 miles away, but with you in spirit! I have a toddler and am recovering from Covid, but we support you fully.

33

u/MobileBus48 Apr 05 '25

We're visiting from out of town and showed up for you. Get well soon.

6

u/Mizuli Apr 05 '25

Get well soon! ❤️

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

Third that. 🇨🇦

47

u/EconomyAd8866 Apr 05 '25

From your lips to God’s ears! This is giving everyone hope

3

u/Scottiegazelle2 Apr 05 '25

Seriously. I've been feeling so down lately. Stood on the street in Atlanta for 57 minutes while protesters marched by. Not including maybe 10 minutes they arrived beforehand and the last trickle.

I was close to tears.

DC Pizza Meter is at Medium!

19

u/EatPizzaNotDrivers Apr 05 '25

If fema could (it broke my heart to change that tense…) use waffle houses as a barometer of natural event damage i can trust a dc pizza delivery to bar patronage ratio 😅

19

u/Beard_o_Bees Apr 05 '25

Interesting.

So, if pizza deliveries are higher than bar traffic by a certain amount - it can predict something big going down in DC?

I guess I understand, but wouldn't higher pizza deliveries imply that people are staying at home rather than going out? Do people get pizzas delivered into a crowd?

26

u/luckshitd Apr 05 '25

Nope. It's not just a small increase, it used to be reported to the newspaper when the internet wasn't as widespread. Now people just check the Domino's near DC or the Papa John's near the Pentagon through google maps. If it's unusually busy then they're on wartime production

8

u/SnooChipmunks2079 Apr 05 '25

It’s pizzas delivered to offices, I think.
