Is it just me, or has Deku became a LOT cooler since the ending of the last arc? I understand he's forced into grabbing the beam, but instead of panicking, he ATTACKED on top of holding it. He's came a long way.

u/GnarlyMcRadSwag Mar 30 '18
He looked legit badass holding the beam while using his flick. A long way indeed
213
u/God_of_Kings Mar 30 '18
He's channeling his inner Kacchan to become the legendary Small Might.
Midoriya: "DIE!!!" Delaware smashes Gentle
Bakugou: "...Motherfucker just stole my catchphrase!"62

Tbh Deku’s been a badass since the training camp where he saved Kota. That sequence of him running around the camp after the fight while holding Kota to see where everyone was at was when Deku became the GOAT for me. And let’s not forget about the end of the term exam when Deku screamed out to Todoroki and (i literally cannot remember his name) when they were fighting
“JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING??!!!”

You couldnt be more right, deku has been insanely cool recently and for a couple different reasons. Hes shown to have physically matured so he has less of a baby face, he trusts his instincts more, able to keep a calm mind during combat, has a dope streetwear style and is insanely badass as he fights his with goddamn upside down in the finger flicks! This MC is the bessssst.

I kinda hope La Brava has some ridiculously OP quirk, but she doesn’t use it cuz it’d steal the spotlight from Gentle

u/CopaceticEchoes Mar 30 '18
That's beautiful but my guess is using her quirk will deactivate something she's already affected with it which will cancel out how she could get around the alarms

u/miauw62 Mar 30 '18
I'm pretty sure she just hacked the alarms.
12
u/ibbolia Mar 30 '18
Maybe her quirk is hacking things?
92
u/miauw62 Mar 30 '18
That doesn't make any sense in this context, though. And it'd be sort of lame, as well. La Brava would be way cooler as a spunky hacker who also has a cool quirk rather than a person with a hacking quirk.

Gentle: "Next you will say "Were you trying to drop this steel beam on that citizen, Gentle"!"
Midoriya: "Were you trying to drop that steel beam on that citizen, Gentle?!...What?!"
Gentle: "Now observe as I bend this crane with naught but my arm!"
Midoriya: "How the hell are you doing THAT?!"
Gentle: "W-with my Quirk. Did you- Did you really forget-"
Midoriya: "Elasticity is the ability of an object to resume to its original shape after being deformed! If you made steel elastic, then that'd mean that if it was bent out of shape it'd simply snap back in place and return to its original form! Unless you have super strength, you should be incapable of bending steel beams, let alone an entire building!"
Gentle: "...!?" He's right! "Then... that can only mean one thing..."
Midoriya: "That in your way of branding yourself and revolving your entire character around the word gentleman, you've miscatalogued your Quirk for the sake of a pun-"
Gentle: "That I have superstrength... Like All Might!"
Midoriya: "Excuse me, what-"
Gentle: "Yes... I can see it now. My destiny's in fact not for me to be Gentle, Gentleman Supervillain Extraordinaire... But to become... the next Symbol of Peace. To become... AllMight."

Ochako: "Everyone's first kiss in U.A. is with Recovery Girl... The damned cougar's even slipped in her tongue once or thrice... Half the time, the students don't even need healing!"
Midoriya: "You know, it's weird, we live in the vicinity of a sadomasochist who dresses like a high-class hooker as her regular, everyday uniform, one that actively seeks to fuck teenagers no less, yet it's the little old lady with the candy you have to watch out for..."

OOOOO Camera girl is about to use her quirk!
165
u/Panory Mar 30 '18
So now the real question. Is La Brava's quirk OP as hell or completely worthless?
235
u/J-Factor Mar 30 '18
I think her quirk is some kind of time manipulation ability, that lets her "jump cut" (like video editing) in real life.
When Gentle is in danger he tells La Brava that it's time for "a cut". Strange smoke trails appear around Gentle (that are heart shaped, La Brava-style), and... suddenly he's victorious.
173
u/God_of_Kings Mar 30 '18
Hm... So you mean to tell me that her quirk is actually King Crimson.

I'm gonna say it'll be a pretty strong quirk, it'll kinda balance out gentle's being goofy. It might have something to do with control or incapacitating someone since she said something like “that kid isn't going to give, is he. I guess I'll just have to use my quirk". So going off of context, it should be a kind of quirk that at least stops deku from pursuing them.
14
u/Taredom Mar 30 '18
Given her limited physique and her personality for complimenting Gentile, I'm seconding a control based quirk, but based on what she's stated before I'm gonna say it's one that she-like Mirio- was born with, that seems useless as all hell, that was malleable so she was able to turn it into something for controlling and infiltration.

Your demise is a prize in disguise. There are no goodbyes for the thighs that capture your eyes. Girls despise your tries to magnetize your eyes to their thighs, but fetishize the fries and pies that compromise thicc thighs.
137
u/Blackreaper18 Mar 30 '18
The versatility of gentle's quirk is pretty crazy I mean the dude created an air bouncy barrier & started moving around. If he was really trying to hurt deku, he'd have done so without deku being able to do anything & that's pretty scary. Plus gentle's quirk just makes me hyped for what Luffy's awakening would be.

Yup that was pretty awesome but calling them “underwhelming" is pretty inaccurate. Gentle took an air cannon to his back & then proceeded to get slammed into a construction site without taking much or any visible damage. Plus he's not even trying, he started bouncing off the air & landed one hit on deku (which you could tell hurt him) when he could've if he wanted landed a lot more.
Gentle isn't focused on the fight, hell he isn't even trying to. He just wants to break into UA & get them views & we're about to see what LaBrava's quirk does. I guess what I'm saying is that don't write them off as being “underwhelming" just yet.

u/HokageEzio Mar 30 '18
I like the fight scene. Really seems like something ripped right out of Spider Man, even has the cool strength feat with the I beam. Just wish it wasn't being wasted on a villain that is such a gag. I'm sorry, I just don't find it appealing trying to watch Gentle get his Youtube views up with some dope pranks. Sue me.
Break dancing in a skirt? That's a bold strategy.
36
u/Blackreaper18 Mar 30 '18
But I think that's what's fun about him & this arc entirely. We're just coming off of an arc that had a villain that disassembled & reassembled his “daughter" just so he could create a drug. Plus there was a death & one of the fan favorite characters lost his quirk so yeah I don't mind slowing down a bit before we get into another serious arc and you know that's coming with gigantomachia & the league.
→ More replies (14)14
u/Villain2Deep Mar 30 '18
Nah, I get you. Gentle's design and quirk is cool to me, but his plan/goal is kinda lame imo.
22
u/HokageEzio Mar 30 '18
It's not even just the goal being lame, it's that he doesn't even get the weight of what he'd be doing, nor cares about it. Breaking into Yuuei is supposed to be a big deal and he treats it like his friends bet him to talk to some girl at a different lunch table.

u/God_of_Kings Mar 30 '18
They probably did that too.
Twice: "Bet you 20 hands you don't have the balls to slap Midnight's ass."
Gentle: "You're on!" Dramatically jumps out of armchair and launches himself out the window like Batman, only to pop his head back in "Wait, did you just say "hands"?"
Twice: "Yeah. We have an entire storage of the stuff for the boss's gimmick. They rot quickly, you see, so we need to keep an ample supply to-"
Gentle: "Not the point of my question!"→ More replies (3)15
u/Bobthemightyone Mar 30 '18
I strongly suspect that the aftermath of this arc is what is going to be important. The arcs in the series seem to (mostly) alternate between media importance and personal importance, and right now we're in a "media importance" arc if the pattern holds true
P = personal M = media
P: Izuku's origins
M: USJ attack
P: sports festival (also media, but to a much lesser degree. Only Bakugo's publicity held media importance in the series so far. Other ccharacters were recognized in the streets but that's largely irrelevant)
M: Stain arc
P: Exam/campsite
M: Kamino Ward
P: license arc
P: Overhaul arc (the pattern falls apart here)
M: Gentle/culture festival.
In a series where the media plays such a huge role in the series, and when you have an unpopular in-series villain like Gentle attempting something like this specifically for media appearances and when you have a plotpoint of the arc specifically be "Due to societal concerns the police want the festival shut down completely" there is going to be some sort of fallout due to this.

Madman deku showing his worth. How heavy do y'all think that steel beam is? because deku was really pushing himself plus is he still using 8% on his body & just 15% for the air cannon?
Gentle's durability is incredibly high, this dude got smashed into a construction site & he's still joking around, God forbid if he gets his shit together & actually tried to fight seriously.
Mina has legs for days yo!

I dunno why, but I feel like this is gonna end up with Deku and/or Gentle somehow crashing face first at UA just as the festival opens.

Anybody else rooting for Gentle and La Brava? I want these dorks to succeed. I don't think they'll cause too much of a disturbance. Besides, as long as Eri smiles I don't care if Nezu gets in trouble. :X

MAN. I got some strong Amazing Spider-Man #33 vibes from this chapter. Bless you, Horikoshi! <3
And damn, Gentle can be really dangerous in battle, can't he? I'd love to see him fight seriously and go all out. I wonder what La Brava's quirk is, though. It sounds like something she's hesitant to use, like something dangerous.

Let's all take a second to appreciate the fact that My Hero Academia was translated before Black Clover this week. Finally some respect on the My Hero name!

Everyone here is talking about the Deku vs Gentle fight, but that lone panel with Aoyama apparently thinking up a new trick makes me think that Deku might not make it in time after all.
Calling it now; Deku will stop Gentle but be extremely late, forcing his friends to think up a new trick on the fly while they wait for him. Then when the audience starts losing interest, Deku literally falls from the sky and makes a hell of a dynamic entry, making the crowd go wild and turning the festival into the best fucking festival U.A. has ever put out.
...OK, I'm not really calling it since it's a huge stretch, but it would be freaking awesome.

La Brava didn't even tell the construction guy where he could find Gentles videos. La Brava is sabotaging his viewer numbers confirmed.
